This move came 18 months after Apple began selling certain Apple Watch models without the feature, following a U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) ruling that found the original implementation infringed Masimo\u2019s pulse oximetry patents.<\/p>\n<p>The ITC has now launched a new investigation to determine whether Apple\u2019s workaround violates the same patents, potentially leading to another import ban on affected models.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2025\/11\/14\/redesigned-apple-watch-blood-oxygen-feature-faces-new-itc-scrutiny\/\">Chance Miller for 9to5Mac<\/a>:<br \/>  \u200e<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p> In new filings today, the ITC said it \u201chas determined to institute a combined modification and enforcement proceeding\u201d to determine whether the redesigned Apple Watch blood oxygen feature is permitted under the initial ITC import ban. The decision was made following a complaint from Masimo.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ITC, conditions have changed because Apple is now selling a redesigned watch that wasn\u2019t part of the original investigation. This, in turn, justifies the revisiting and will be the \u201csole issue to be resolved\u201d in the proceeding.<\/p>\n<p>The review includes the question of whether Apple causes infringement by selling an Apple Watch that, once paired with an iPhone, performs the disputed features. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u200e<br \/> The ITC says it expects to make a decision within six months.
