But if you send a lot of messages, it can become quite annoying. Conversely, if you love this sound and audio confirmation, it may cause a bit of doubt when this swoosh sound isn&#8217;t played after hitting the send arrow button.<\/p>\n<p>So, whichever camp you&#8217;re in, here&#8217;s how to enable or disable the swoosh\/whoosh sound when sending emails in the Apple Mail app.<\/p>\n<h2>On iPhone and iPad<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the <strong>Settings app<\/strong> and tap <strong>Sounds &amp; Haptics<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Tap <strong>Sent Mail<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>To disable the sound, tap <strong>None<\/strong> at the top. Instead, there is a single option in the Mail app settings to enable or disable all Mail sounds, except for the incoming email notifications.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the <strong>Mail app<\/strong> on your Mac and click <strong>Mail<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Settings<\/strong> from the top menu bar.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you&#8217;re in the <strong>General<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Uncheck the box for \u201c<strong>Play sounds for other mail actions<\/strong>,\u201d and now there will be no swoosh sound when you send an email from your Mac. If you want this sound, check the box, and then close the settings window.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border aligncenter wp-image-1050142 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Play-sounds-for-other-mail-actions-in-Mac-Mail-app-settings.png\" alt=\"Play sounds for other mail actions in Mac Mail app settings\" width=\"1544\" height=\"1216\" \/> <\/p>\n<h2>Temporary solution \u2014 Lower the system volume<\/h2>\n<p>If you want to keep the swoosh sound enabled for sent emails, but don&#8217;t want to hear them temporarily when you&#8217;re in a meeting or library, then turn down the system volume, ringtone volume, or mute all sounds entirely.<\/p>\n<h3>On iPhone or iPad<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce the ringtone volume from iOS <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Sounds &amp; Haptics<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Use the physical volume down button to reduce the ringtone volume if you&#8217;ve enabled \u201cChange with Buttons\u201d in Sounds &amp; Haptics settings.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2022\/12\/16\/how-to-mute-iphone-without-silent-switch\/\">Put your iPhone or iPad in silent mode<\/a> to mute such alert tones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>On Mac<\/h3>\n<p>Unlike iOS, even if I mute my Mac or lower the volume using the keyboard volume keys, the Mail app continues to play the swoosh sound when sending emails.
