The third season of the Apple TV+ hit show \u201cSeverance\u201c is in production, but it won\u2019t take three years to arrive like the previous season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Showrunner Ben Stiller previously said they were aiming to release \u201cSeverance\u201d season 3 much, much sooner than the three-year gap between the first two seasons. The Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss has reiterated that stance in a chat with Variety<\/em><\/a>, confirming the show\u2019s been renewed for a third season.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one wants it to be another three-year gap,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t believe that we have a production start date yet, but we\u2019re moving in that direction.\u201d Both the first and second seasons of \u201cSeverance\u201d are streaming now on Apple TV+.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeverance\u201d season 3 is in production<\/h2>\n

The first season of \u201cSeverance\u201d premiered on Apple TV+ in February 2022, but the second season (with an extra episode) took three years to arrive and wouldn\u2019t hit Apple\u2019sstreaming service until January 2025 due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023.<\/p>\n

Cherniss told Variety<\/em> that writer Dan Erickson and executive producers, including director Ben Stiller, are currently developing season 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think everyone\u2019s just going to take a deep breath and enjoy where we\u2019re at,\u201d he said. \u201cI know they\u2019re going as quickly as they can.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you have the success that a show like \u2018Severance\u2019 has, you want to make sure you deliver on every level when the show comes back, and that takes some time,\u201d he said. \u201cBut they\u2019re on it, and I think I\u2019m feeling really good about where we\u2019re at.\u201d<\/p>\n

In case you missed Apple\u2019s glass cube pop-up in Grand Central Station<\/a> and other clever marketing promotions, \u201cSeverance\u201d proved a massively popular show for Apple TV+. The psychological thriller series revolves around the fictional biotechnology corporation Lumon Industries, which provides a medical procedure to employees who would like to separate their workplace memories from private ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeverance\u201d brought Apple 27 Emmy nominations<\/h2>\n

\u201cSeverance\u201d has earned Apple 27 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and nine performance category nominations, which is the largest-ever number of Emmy nominations for the video service as of yet.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019Severance\u2019 and \u2018The Studio\u2019 have exceeded our wildest expectations in earning the most nominations for both drama and comedy series, alongside the phenomenal \u2018Shrinking\u2019 and \u2018Slow Horses,\u2019\u201d Zack Van Amburg, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video, was quoted as saying in yesterday\u2019s press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese shows have connected deeply with audiences around the world, and we’re incredibly appreciative to the Television Academy for recognizing the breadth of storytelling that has been an honor for us to champion,\u201d Van Amburg added.<\/p>\n
