While macOS Sequoia brought a fresh look to the Control Center, the customization options were limited—you couldn’t change the layout or add controls from third-party apps.

Well, I’m happy to report that this will change when macOS Tahoe launches this fall. The update brings deeper customization to the Control Center that allows you to the arrangement of controls and add controls from compatible third-party apps.

macOS Tahoe brings a customizable Control Center with third-party controls

The official press release and the macOS page confirm you now have “more ways to customize the controls and layout in the menu bar and Control Center, even those from third parties.” In other words, the redesigned Control Center on macOS Tahoe is just as customizable as the Control Center on your iPhone and iPad, bringing it on par with the changes that Apple brought last year with iOS and iPadOS 18.

Aside from custom controls provided by third-party Mac apps, you can also add controls from apps on your iPhone. When you click such a control, the app launches in iPhone Mirroring. Also, you have more flexibility when rearranging the menu bar items. Before, some menu bar items couldn’t be moved at all.

Like before, the same controls from built-in apps and compatible third-party apps can be added to the menu bar by dragging an item from the Control Center and dropping it on the menu bar. There are also new toggles in System Settings to turn menu bar items for specific apps on or off.

Apple has also improved the Control Center on the Apple Watch with the watchOS 26 update, which also adds support for third-party controls to go beyond Apple’s built-in toggles and tiles. With the new Control Widget API, developers can create custom controls that the user can add to the Control Center or assign to the Action Button. For example, apps that make use of the new API like Dark Noise can add a custom control to turn on a sleep soundscape via the Control Center on their Apple Watch without having to launch the app on their iPhone.

Source link: https://www.idownloadblog.com/2025/06/11/apple-macos-tahoe-control-center-customizable-controls-third-party-mac-iphone-apps/

Apple’s new macOS Tahoe operating system allows you to rearrange the Control Center layout and use third-party controls, just like on your iPhone and iPad.
