Unlike Android handsets which have a basic vibratory motor, the Taptic Engine is Apple’s custom-designed component that uses haptic technology to generate a wide range of different tactile feedback patterns.

In the trailer, the Taptic Engine showcases its full power by producing various vibrations that simulate everything from the roaring engines to the tools used during the pit stop, to the soundtrack and beyond.

Apple’s new F1 trailer showcases the power of the iPhone’s Taptic Engine

You can feel these vibrations in your hand by playing the F1 trailer in the TV+ tab in the TV app on your iPhone. This haptic trailer is exclusive to the TV app; the version on YouTube won’t work. Note that your iPhone must use iOS 18.4 or later for this. This only works on the iPhone as the iPad and the Mac don’t have a Taptic Engine.

I think this is one of the best examples of the power of the Taptic Engine. You can really get a sense of vibration variety that the Taptic Engine is capable of, going from very subtle vibrations corresponding to a bouncing ping pong ball while picking up strength and prominence to simulate engine rev.

F1 follows the story of Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), who was Formula 1’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career.

Here’s a short blurb from Apple’s press release:

Thirty years later, he’s a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling Formula 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to Formula 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He’ll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in Formula 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition — and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.

The haptic trailer is great marketing on Apple’s part and the iPhone maker spared no expense to push the flick. For example, it recreated the F1 Monaco Grand Prix circuit in 3D in the Maps app ahead of the upcoming Formula 1 2025 season.

Aside from select 3D landmarks, Maps brings detailed graphics for grandstands and the finish line, as well as markers for the turns. To help people visiting Monaco, the Maps app displays relevant public transit routes, road markings, turn lanes, bus and bike lanes, road closures, pedestrian crossings and more for easier navigation.

Apple Maps also published a custom guide of Monaco and other iconic tracks from the movie. iDownloadBlog has joined in on the action in our own way by sharing iPhone wallpapers for the F1 2025 season.

F1 is the most ambitious original film by Apple TV+ to date. It’s scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 27 in the United States and Canada (on June 25 internationally). F1 will also stream on Apple TV+ after its theatrical run, but Apple has yet to announce a release date.

Source link: https://www.idownloadblog.com/2025/06/11/apple-tv-plus-exclusive-f1-haptic-trailer/

Apple’s exclusive new haptic trailer for the F1 movie starring Brad Pitt uses the iPhone’s Taptic Engine to simulate onscreen action via vibrations.
