{"id":109927,"date":"2020-07-24T14:04:19","date_gmt":"2020-07-24T18:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/midatlanticconsulting.com\/blog\/?p=109927"},"modified":"2020-07-24T14:04:19","modified_gmt":"2020-07-24T18:04:19","slug":"wink-sends-demand-to-users-pay-5-a-month-or-well-disable-your-smart-home-hub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/midatlanticconsulting.com\/blog\/2020\/07\/wink-sends-demand-to-users-pay-5-a-month-or-well-disable-your-smart-home-hub\/","title":{"rendered":"Wink Sends Demand to Users: Pay $5 a Month or We&#8217;ll Disable Your Smart Home Hub."},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Ransomware?\u00a0 We think so!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">The Wink Hub which was sold at stores like Lowes was never as good as the competitors.\u00a0 I would rank the ISY from<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.universal-devices.com\/\">Universal-Devices<\/a><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>as the best SmartHome hub on the market followed by the SmartThings hub by Samsung.\u00a0 Sorry Apple- I can\u2019t even list HomeKit in the top 10.\u00a0 I bought a Wink Hub years ago to control a smart bank that Santa brought my kids that only worked with Wink.\u00a0 I also purchased a smart egg tray (no laughing) that would not only tell you when you were out of eggs but which ones were the oldest to be sure they were used first.\u00a0\u00a0 Well both those products no longer function so my hub is useless.<\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Wink claimed on the box there would be no fees.\u00a0\u00a0 Now, they are blackmailing their customers with a notice to pay up by July 27<sup class=\"\">th<\/sup> or we will cut off your service.\u00a0\u00a0 The company claims in the small print, hidden so no one would ever read it, \u201cWink reserves the right to interrupt the Services with or without prior notice for any reason or no reason\u201d and that Wink has the right \u201cto change and\/or eliminate any aspect(s) of the Services as it sees fit in its sole discretion.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 We, along with many others, feel that what they are doing is way beyond the scope of changing their services. This is basically a Ransomware for the people who bought their products.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Pay $5 a month ransom or we will stop your product we promised no hidden costs from working.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">We can\u2019t tell you what to do, but I can tell you my Wink Hub went into the trash a week ago and I will invest my money into the ISY from<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.universal-devices.com\/\">Universal-Devices<\/a><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0 In addition to Insteon, Z-Wave, and Zigsbee support, they have been hard at work creating links (over 80 right now) to other SmartHome products like swimming pools, smart irrigation valves, and Roomba vacuums to their system,\u00a0 More devices seem to pop up every week.\u00a0\u00a0 Invest your money in something that works and has potential to grow and not a system that has already reached its limits.<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ransomware?\u00a0 We think so!!!
