Mobile phones have become so feature-rich that we’re getting to the point of having to point out things they can’t do instead of what each device is capable of.<\/p>\n

Taking photos is something almost everyone does and it’s awesome that there are a variety of photo editing apps that allow you to take ordinary pictures and make them into works of art.<\/p>\n

HDR Portrait<\/a> enhances the iPhone’s portrait mode and fires up your creativity by simplifying the creation of amazing abstract photos using a wide variety of slick customizations.<\/p>\n

Developed by Maxim Chernousov<\/a>, this fun app is packed with all the tools and tweaks you need to make seriously cool photos.<\/p>\n

Concept and Functionality:<\/strong> \"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"<\/p>\n

HDR Portrait is first and foremost a portrait app. It’s designed for photos that are focused on a singular subject with an abstract background surrounding it.<\/p>\n

The cool thing about this is that the subject doesn’t have to be a person – you can use photos of anything, and you’re only limited by your imagination.<\/p>\n

As is the case with most feature-rich photography apps, the trick is playing around with all the different features in order to figure out what works best for you.<\/p>\n

HDR Portrait certainly has no shortage of filters and settings for you to adjust, but it will take some time to find out how everything works.<\/p>\n

Photography apps can be tricky to use, especially when there’s a heavy focus on customization. Luckily, I found HDR Portrait to be incredibly easy to navigate and I didn’t have any problems with getting it to do exactly what I wanted.<\/p>\n

It’s fun to change different settings to see what kind of effect they have.<\/p>\n

While newer iPhones have multiple camera lenses that are designed to enhance portraits, HDR Portrait supports older iPhones that have only one lens thanks to enhanced subject detection technology.<\/p>\n

I tested the app on my vintage iPhone 6s Plus and it worked perfectly, right down to being able to detect the primary subject and highlight it perfectly in order to separate it from the rest of the photo.<\/p>\n

One thing I do want to mention is that most of the extra features in HDR Portrait need to be unlocked with an additional upgrade for a nominal fee. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because it allows you to decide whether you’re happy with what the app can do or if you’d like to have a little bit more control over how your photos turn out.<\/p>\n

HDR Portrait is available to download from the App Store for $1.99. The cost to upgrade to the full version is an additional $0.99.<\/p>\n

Overall, HDR Portrait is an incredible bang for the buck and is well worth every penny if you’re into snapping portraits on your iPhone and adding your own artistic twist.<\/p>\n
