Fix: Apple Music web player stops or refuses to work
Go through these important solutions if the Apple Music web player doesn’t work, fails to play the full song, stops in-between, or refuses to work properly in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and other browsers on your computer, smartphone, or other device.
Even though Apple Music has dedicated apps for most non-Apple platforms, such as Windows, Android, smart televisions, and streaming devices, you may still want to use Apple Music web at music.apple.com if you don’t want to download yet another app, have a lack of local space on the device, or something else.
Apple Music works well in both computer and smartphone web browsers and provides a decent experience. But if you’re facing issues, the solutions below will help fix the problem.
Make sure you have a subscription
Unlike Spotify and YouTube Music, Apple Music doesn’t have a free or ad-supported tier. It will play full songs in the app or web browser only if you have an active paid subscription or free trial.
Important: Apple Music has a few free live radio stations, such as Apple Music 1, that don’t require a subscription. But it works only after you log in with your Apple Account. You can access these free live stations here: music.apple.com/radio
Check your internet connection
Based on my experience using Apple Music in a web browser on a computer and an Android phone, I can assure you that it works properly only when the Wi-Fi or cellular data connection is very good. So, check that things are fine in this department.
Important: Select the country
When you visit music.apple.com, a banner appears asking you to select a country, likely yours. In my repeated tries, I wasn’t able to play a full song (previews worked) until I selected a country. If you don’t have the country selector banner on the screen, refresh the web page, and it should appear.
Refresh the page
If Apple Music feels stuck or doesn’t work well, just refresh the browser page, and it should work. Again, don’t forget to select your country and click Continue.
Close and reopen the web browser
If the above tips haven’t worked, quit the browser app (i.e., Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox) and reopen it. Then, retry playing Apple Music at music.apple.com.
Check the server status
Visit apple.com/support/systemstatus/ to check that Apple Music and related services are working correctly. If there is a server issue on Apple’s end, you’ll have to wait a while until they implement a fix.
Restart your device
If you haven’t restarted your computer or smartphone in a while, do it now, and then try using Apple Music in a web browser again.
Check if you’re using Apple Music on another device
Individual Apple Music subscription only allows playback on a single device at a time. So, if you’re unable to play Apple Music in a web browser, make sure you or someone in your house isn’t playing it on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android phone, Windows PC, or family Apple TV, HomePod, smart television, or streaming device.
Use Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox
Are you using some obscure web browser on your PC or Android phone? In that case, switch to Google Chrome, Edge, or Firefox and retry. Apple Music should work fine in these web browsers.
Sign out of your Apple Account and sign back in
Click your profile picture icon on music.apple.com and Sign Out. Then, restart your device, revisit the page, and sign back in.
Sign out of all browsers and then sign in
If the above step didn’t work, sign out of all web browsers and start fresh.
- Make sure you’re signed into music.apple.com.
- Click your profile icon in the upper right corner and select Settings.
- Scroll down the Account Settings page and use the “Sign Out of All Web Browsers” button.
Clear the web browser history and cache
Finally, if none of the above solutions have worked for you, this one definitely will.
All you need to do is clear your entire browser history and then sign back in to Apple Music (and every other site you use). Now, try playing a song, and it will work.
