OWC unveils Thunderbolt 5 Dock that brings 11 I/O ports to a compatible device near you

Computer hardware and accessory maker Other World Computing (OWC) on Monday unveiled an all-new Thunderbolt 5 Dock with a total of 11 versatile ports, which promise a powerful I/O upgrade for any workstation where professional connectivity is a must.
Not only does this Dock support the Thunderbolt 5 standard for machines that have native Thunderbolt 5 ports, unlocking an astonishing 80Gb/s bi-directional data transfer with up to 120Gb/s video stream performance, it also features backward compatibility with older devices, including Thunderbolt 4 at 40Gb/s, Thunderbolt 3 at 20Gb/s, USB4 at 40Gb/s and up to 80Gb/s, and USB-C at up to 20Gb/s.
The backward compatibility means that even users of non-Thunderbolt 5-enabled machines can use this Dock for their setup, and it will remain future-proofed for when the end user chooses to upgrade to a newer Thunderbolt 5-enabled machine.
Among the I/O ports that are available in the latest Thunderbolt 5 Dock from OWC are the following:
- 4x Thunderbolt 5/USB4 ports (one with up to 140W power delivery for the host machine)
- 3x USB-A 3.2 ports – one with 5Gb/s, and two with 10Gb/s
- 1x 2.5Gb Ethernet port
- 1x 3.5mm mic input and speaker output combo jack
- 1x microSD card slot
- 1x SD card slot
The OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dock also features a Kensington lock port, as well as a DC-in for the included power adapter, but these are far less commonly used than the main 11 I/O ports listed above. A Thunderbolt 5 cable is included in the box for instant out-of-the-box usability.
Docks like these are powerful assets for expanding the Thunderbolt/USB-C ports on devices like the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro, and other alike devices from other brands and manufacturers that take advantage of the Thunderbolt standard. You can even use it with certain iPads, like the iPad Pro.
While OWC’s Thunderbolt 5 Dock supports up to three 8K HDR displays @60Hz with DSC or 30Hz without DSC on Windows devices, a limitation on Macs only allows for the connection of up to two 6K displays on Apple’s devices. This is not a limitation of the Dock itself, but rather macOS and Mac hardware.
Whether you’re a creator who needs fast connectivity for external SSDs, memory cards, and other devices on your desk, or you simply need more displays to work with, the OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dock drives a hard bargain.
OWC’s Thunderbolt 5 Dock will retail for $329.99 and will soon be available for pre-order from OWC’s official website. It’s expected to launch in July, so if this is something you think you might be interested in, you should bookmark this as OWC’s Docks tend to be quite popular and they’re expected to sell out fast.
