Welcome Peak Design’s new outdoor line of backpacks and slings, now live for pre-order on Kickstarter
Peak Design has long been known for its ambitious storage bags that suit not only everyday travel in almost any setting, but also for its photographer-conscious bag layouts that make storing camera equipment, accessories, and a laptop especially easy. They now offer a wide range of backpacks, slings, duffels, and smaller organization packs.

While Peak Design has always been favorable toward techies, the brand recently decided to dip its toes into an entirely new space – outdoor packing. Whether you’re camping, hiking, or taking on the life of a nomad, we think the brand’s latest outdoor and adventure-tailored products, called the Outdoor Line, might be right up your alley.
Peak Design’s Outdoor Line of bags consists of two backpacks, two slings, an entire ecosystem of packing tools that can help a user manipulate clothes, gear, photography equipment, and other essentials that they may want while adventuring the great outdoors. We’ll discuss the latest offerings below.
Peak Desing Outdoor Backpack
In terms of backpacks, Peak Design’s new Outdoor Backpack comes in both 25L and 45L sizes. The 25L has a size comparable to many school backpacks, while the 45L gives users a robust backpack volume for packing days’ worth of supplies with them.
Peak Design is especially proud about the Outdoor Backpack’s unique harness system, as it utilizes a low-profile, hyper-adjustable shoulder and waist strap system for not only superior comfort, but less bulk. According to Peak Design, the shoulder straps are inspired by running vests and distribute their weight over a greater surface area for improved comfort. They also offer convenient storage and camera attachment points.
Accessing the Outdoor Backpack can be accomplished one of two ways, including: 1) a quick-opening top hatch called the Ultra Cinch, and 2) a giant rear access panel for both easy packing and total visibility over all the pack’s contents.
Across the exterior of the Outdoor Backpack are a versatile Cord Hook carry system and a network of stretchy Flex Pockets so that you can hold items externally including water bottles, tripods, jackets, carabiners, and more.
Peak Design Outdoor Sling
For lighter travelers, Peak Design also offers an Outdoor Sling, which comes in 2L and 7L sizes. The 2L is big enough for you to empty your pockets of everyday carry equipment into one convenient bag, while the 7L gives you a little more room to fit perhaps a camera and a lens with you.
Peak Design says both sizes of the sling feature a removable strap with a custom clasp and quick-adjustment hardware so that you convert the sling from a cross-body bag to a waist bag. The 7L even offers external carry Gear Loops and is large enough to accommodate a Peak Design X-Small Camera Cube so that it converts into a photography-friendly packing system.
Both sling sizes are capable of mounting to the shoulder straps of the aforementioned Outdoor Backpacks to offer the end user chest-mounted storage space. This can be especially helpful while hiking a trail.
The Peak Design Ecosystem
What’s especially cool about Peak Design is that their products work with one another to provide a seamless packing experience. All Peak Design’s new Outdoor Line bags work with the brand’s Camera Cubes, which were only just updated in late 2023, as well as the Ultralight Packing Cubes that were introduced in June.
These cubes make it easy to organize the contents of your large-volume bags so that your camera equipment remains well insulated from other stuff that you bring along for your trip. Peak Design says these are perfect for mirrorless camera setups, as well as drone loadouts.
In addition to what you can store inside these bags with Peak Design’s Cube ecosystem, you can also clip cameras externally to your bags with Peak Design’s Capture system, which uses Peak Design’s tripod mount as a mounting system anywhere you choose to put the Capture, such as on a shoulder strap of your backpack.
Where to get one

Wrapping up
Peak Design has always impressed us with the quality of their backpacks and storage solutions. Their furtherance into the Outdoor world shows us that the brand is serious about making packing equipment for the adventurous ones who want to capture amazing memories in nature, or in other environments where long-term packing would benefit.
