Following the news that Twitter had abruptly ended support for third-party clients under the new leadership of Elon Musk, TweetBot developer TapBots was ultimately forced into retiring its popular app.

Rising from the ashes of TweetBot, however, is a new third-party client app called Ivory for the Mastodon platform, which first became available from the App Store Tuesday afternoon.

Ivory has been a hot topic of discussion over the past several weeks, as TapBots was perhaps one of the most vocal of the third-party client developers to have been impacted by Twitter’s recent changes.

While the app has been available in closed beta for some time to a limited subset of testers, today marks the first time that anyone can freely download the app from the App Store and begin using it.

Anyone who was familiar with TweetBot should find that Ivory looks and feels a lot like it. That said, while there’s a learning curve for the Mastodon social network if you’re used to Twitter, much of the UI in TapBots’ Ivory app should be easy for users to adapt to.

Ivory is available as a free download from the App Store, but many of its features are locked behind a subscription-based paywall that will cost $1.99 per month or $14.99 per year, with the latter option obviously offering the best value.

Do you plan to take advantage of Ivory, or have you chosen to remain on Twitter and continue using the first-party app? Let us know in the comments section down below.
