Apple releases iOS 16.1.2 with improved cellular support, Crash Detection enhancements on iPhone 14 models
Apple on released iOS 16.1.2 for the general public on Monday with small enhancements for iPhone users that should improve the user experience.
As an incremental update, iOS 16.1.2 doesn’t come with any substantial changes, but rather bug fixes and improvements. In the official change log, Apple says the update introduces the following changes:
- Improved compatibility with wireless carriers
- Crash detection optimizations on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models
Recommended for iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models especially
The update is clearly recommended for all iPhone users, especially those using the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max due to the Crash Detection optimizations.
While Apple doesn’t go into significant detail about the carrier compatibility in this update, it’s safe to assume that Apple is adding support for new wireless carriers around the world and optimizing existing ones, likely with respect to boosting the 5G performance to battery ratio.
How to get it
If you’re wanting to install iOS 16.1.2, then you can find it under the Settings > General > Software Update section where the over the air (OTA) updating mechanism resides.
Installing this update requires a Wi-Fi or 5G connection, and your iPhone will restart after installing it.
Jailbreakers beware
If you’re waiting for a jailbreak, remember that it’s best to stay on the lowest possible firmware to enhance your odds of being on a supported version if and when a new tool releases.
Apple’s recent updates have really beefed up iOS security, so this advice is more important now that ever. There is no jailbreak currently for any version of iOS or iPadOS 16.
