Apple approves Parler to return to the App Store

Parler, a niche social media platform, has been missing from Apple’s App Store for a bit of time now. But that is changing, as expected.

In line with keeping up with its own stated rules and regulations regarding the digital storefront, Apple has confirmed to United States Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and Representative Ken Buck (R-CO) that Parler has said it will make the necessary changes to be approved for a return to the App Store (via CNN). According to the letter, Parler has “proposed updates to its app and the app’s content moderation practices”, which means it is back in line with App Store rules.

Once these changes have been implemented into the app, and the app is resubmitted to the App Store, the app can be cleared for approval. Once that happens, Parler can once again be made available for iOS users to download and install on their devices.

Apple (and Google) removed Parler from their own digital storefronts back in January of this year. The reasons for the removal focused entirely on accusations that users on the platform used it to promote violence before and during the pro-Trump riot at the United States Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

Following that, Apple demanded that Parler remove hateful and violent content from the app. However, when Parler refused to follow those regulations, the app was removed as of January 9, 2021. Amazon pulled Parler support, too, effectively removing the platform from the internet entirely (until it found a replacement web host, returning in February).

The original report does not note when Parler will be available in the App Store. At the time of publication, the app is not available.
