16-inch MacBook Pro pop noise fix coming in software update
Some new laptops from Apple are exhibiting a very distinctive popping sound coming from the speaker when using some apps. Apple says it’s a software problem that will be addressed in forthcoming updates, according to MacRumors.
Apple introduced the in November and it’s gotten mostly good reviews from early adopters because of its improved keyboard, larger screen real estate and other amenities. The popping sound is an annoyance that’s been noted by users of the new device in various online discussion groups.
After trying to isolate the problem to software, an Authorized Service Provider (ASP) might then request parts from Apple or send the device to an Apple repair depot for further diagnosis.
As obtained by MacRumors, a service bulletin distributed to Apple’s ASP network acknowledges the pop noise problem, advising personnel that hardware repairs to correct the problem are unnecessary.
When using Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, QuickTime Player, Music, Movies, or other applications to play audio, users may hear a pop come from the speakers after playback has ended. Apple is investigating the issue. A fix is planned in future software updates. Do not set up service, or replace the user’s computer, as this is a software-related issue.
