Disney’s CEO Bob Iger resigns from Apple’s board
Late on Friday, it’s being reported that Disney CEO Bob Iger has resigned from Apple’s board of directors. Iger’s departure from the board was announced in an SEC filing on September 10. CNBC was the first to pick it up today, though. This potential reality was first hinted at back in March, when it was reported that Iger may lose his seat on the board due to the impending launch of competing platforms.
However, in April, Iger shot down that claim, saying that when Apple TV+ was brought up, he recused himself from the conversations.
It has been an extraordinary privilege to have served on the Apple board for 8 years, and I have the utmost respect for Tim Cook, his team at Apple, and for my fellow board members,” Iger said in a statement. “Apple is one of the world’s most admired companies, known for the quality and integrity of its products and its people, and I am forever grateful to have served as a member of the company’s board.
Iger joined Apple’s board back in 2011, and he had a personal relationship with Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs. However, with the two competing platforms about to duke it out in a heated streaming war, it seems the departure was inevitable.
