Apple releases watchOS 6 GM to developers
With the next major version of Apple’s smartwatch operating system launching soon, the company has released the final Golden Master version of the mobile OS to developers.
Apple has released the Golden Master of watchOS 6 to developers ahead of the operating system’s public launch later this month on Thursday, September 19. It has been over three months since Apple initially unveiled watchOS 6, and the company has been regularly seeding beta version of the OS since then.
Registered developers need the proper configuration profile installed before they will be able to update the Apple Watch to the GM release of watchOS 6. One that is done, the Apple Watch must be charged to 50% or more, be connected to the charger, and also be connected and within range of the iPhone. The new software can be downloaded and installed via the dedicated Watch app on the iPhone.
watchOS 6 is a big update for the smartwatch OS. It adds a variety of new elements to the platform, including a dedicated App Store, making it possible to download apps for the Apple Watch directly on the accessory rather than having to rely on the iPhone. There are new watch faces included, and the ability to remove some stock apps as well.
watchOS 6 also features new dedicated apps, including Calculator, Voice Memos, and Audiobooks. There is a new Noise app that will let you know if the sounds in your area are too loud. There are a variety of new apps, including Cycle Tracking, and more.
