In May 2017, Apple snapped up a sleep-tracking app, called Beddit Sleep Monitor, and an accompanying $150 accessory that helps customers achieve a better sleep. And now we learn that the Beddit cloud service is officially shutting down on November 15, 2018.

News came in release notes accompanying the Beddit app’s update on App Store today. “Starting with this update, new users will no longer be able to use Beddit Cloud,” reads the changelog.

Existing users will also not be able to use Beddit Cloud starting November 15, 2018. It’s unclear if this is a sign that Beddit products might soon be discontinued entirely and have their technology integrated in Apple Watch.

Beddit’s solution for monitoring sleep patterns uses a soft sensor placed under your bed sheets to analyze sleep-related data. It’s $150 and available on Apple’s website.

Beddit technology is based upon ballistocardiography.

Ballistocardiography is an unobtrusive, noninvasive technique for measuring the mechanical activity of the heart, lungs and other body functions. The gadget transmits the data it collects to your iPhone and Apple Watch.

Beddit’s privacy policy was updated following the acquisition to clarify that “your personal data will be collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the Apple Privacy Policy.”

Have you used Beddit’s sleep-tracking accessory before?

If so, what did you think of it?
