After seeding the second developer betas, Apple has seeded the corresponding public betas of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 to public beta testers.

On Wednesday, Apple seeded the second public betas of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 to public beta testers. This pre-release software is the same as the second developer betas the company seeded earlier this week. As such, there are some new elements to the software, as Apple prepares for the public launch later this fall.

If you are not registered for the public beta program but want to be, you can sign up here. And if you are already registered, you can download the new pre-release software as an over-the-air (OTA) update on your registered device(s).

As far as what’s new, iOS 14.2 welcomes a new Shazam feature within Control Center, making it easier to identify songs that are playing around you. The feature can now even recognize music while you’re listening to it on your AirPods.

In addition to the change for Shazam, the Now Playing widget in Control Center has been redesigned and improved. In iOS 14.2, this widget will now show recently played music when you’re not currently listening to anything. AirPlay’s interface is tweaked in the new software as well.

The latest developer beta of iOS 14.2 also introduced support for the newest batch of emoji. That includes bubble tea, a ninja, a boomerang, more diversity support, and many other options.

Apple will more than likely release iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 to the public in the next few weeks.
