Explore more than 50 meteorological layers on interactive 3D maps and monitor climate changes above the poles with Ventusky for iPhone. Aside from 3D maps, the new version brings the ability to monitor climate changes above the Earth’s poles.

For those wondering, classic 2D maps cannot visualize the weather near the poles.

With as many as fifty meteorological laters available in Ventusky, weather fans are able to monitor things such as jet stream, stratospheric warming, polar vortex, hurricanes and other elements that occur in higher layers of the atmosphere.

From the blurb:

The app combines highly accurate weather forecast for your location with a 3D map showing development of weather in a broader area in a very interesting way. This allows you to see where precipitation is going to come from or where the wind is blowing from.

The uniqueness of the app comes from the amount of data displayed. Forecast of weather, precipitation, wind, cloud cover, atmospheric pressure, snow cover and other meteorological data for different altitudes is available for the whole world.

Among the meteorological layers available in the app is a newly added layer that shows new snow cover, allowing you to easily see how much snow will fall in the upcoming days.

What this does is enable the more experienced users like meteorologists and climatologists to monitor the climatic changes and make long-term weather forecasts. As an example, researches recently discovered that sudden warming in the stratosphere above the North Pole can lead to arctic blasts in Europe and North America.

According to the app’s creator David Prantl from Czech Republic, Ventusky files as the only native app on iOS or Android that can display more than 50 meteorological layers on a 3D globe.
