Mountain Lion- OS 10.8 Preview 1 Summary

Apple released to developers a preview of Mountain Lion  for a late summer release date.

Here is our summary….

First- you will notice that it is no longer called Mac OS.  Apple Dropped the Mac.

Second- it only works on these machines-

  • iMac (mid 2007 or later)
  • MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, 2008) (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later) (15-inch, 2.4/2.2 GHz), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
  • Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)

Third- A few new features but we are sure there is more to come in future previews.

  • AirPlay Mirroring - My favorite Feature- Broadcast your mac to an Apple TV Black Unit wirelessly.
  • Reminders - Syncs with iCloud and Reminders App in iOS 5.  Lists (like shopping lists) and Tasks with notification reminders.
  • Notification Center - Like Growl they now have on screen notifications that pop up.  Save for later just like notifications center in iOS 5.
  • Notes - iCloud synced notes- finally!!!
  • Share Sheets - share buttons to email, Facebook, tweet, iMessage, etc.
  • Game Center - social gaming center on iOS come to the mac
  • Messages - new version of iChat with iMessage support can be downloaded if you have Lion as a public beta here.
Only developers can download the preview except for the messages app.
